Ideas and inspiration for efficient living.

About

My name is Marie-Eve. I am fluent in French and English and I mix them up sometimes (okay, a lot). I grew up in Quebec, completed high school in the Prairies, and pursed my college education in the United States. I’ve traveled to India, Switzerland and Venezuela. All of these places have left cultural imprints on me, opening my mind (and my taste buds!) to many different influences.

I have been married to my college sweetheart since 2003. I am a full time mother to two young boys and a third baby we should meet this summer.

I have always been obsessed with efficiency. When I was fifteen years old, I remember having a discussion with my father that I actually planned a mental strategy for the quickest way to get my coffee done in the morning. That is a bit neurotic but that is how my brain works.

As a child, I was often scolded for being too bossy. I wasn’t bossy because I wanted to be mean. I just knew of a quicker or more efficient way to do things, and I wanted to help others. The way I communicated my intent was the problem. Years later, I have worked on the communication and I am here again to help you, I hope, find ways to live a more efficient life.

I have a bachelor’s degree in a topic that did not get me this far in life and I was an off and on personal trainer in a gym for some time before and after I had children.

I have been a runner since May 2010. Running is the perfect sport for me because I can get right out the door and run and I’m alone in nature. Being alone is quite the treat as a full time mom to toddlers. I ran my first half-marathon in September 2011 and I can’t wait to run another one.

I love reading non-fiction books, biographies, and classical novels. I’m slowly learning to appreciate current novels, especially if they take me around the world. Never ask me about Twilight or Lord of the Rings, I will not go near a fantasy novel. Among my favorite books are The Lost Daughters of China and Les Misérables.

I love food. I celebrate with food (and feel down with it sometimes too). It’s a good thing I love working out, it balances out. My favourite outing is going to the restaurant. The best foods I had this year are prosciutto cheese fondant served with balsamic dressing over mixed greens, goat cheese and pineapple sushi (and I don’t even like goat cheese!) and perfectly creamy crème brûlée served at the restaurant my husband works at. I cook many international meals at home and my family is not afraid of spices!

I don’t intend this blog to be about the nitty gritty of my family life. I’m sure your kids (if you have any) do as many cute things as mine do and I’ll let you enjoy yours while as I enjoy mine.

However I do think that parenting is one of the most challenging and effective teachers of all, so certainly my husband or children will come up in my writing. They have inspired me to change my life more than anyone else ever has.

There is an absolute chance that I will talk about adoption and orphan care at some point, since that is the issue that is closest to my heart.

I think it’s very important to know what our natural talents and inclinations are. Before I discovered mine, I didn’t know where to direct my life. Once I discovered that I am a gifted teacher and that my greatest motivation is improving things and people’s lives, I knew I should become a conference speaker. I’ll be sure to detail ways in the future in which you can get to know yourself and make the world a better place with who you are!
